Tropical Storm Beryl

We wanted to give you a quick update on Tropical Storm Beryl and how it might affect your cargo.

On Monday morning, Beryl hit the Texas coast as a category 1 hurricane with 85mph winds and heavy rainfall before being downgraded to a tropical storm. Houston and Galveston have seen severe flooding, power outages, and wind damage. Continuous heavy rain is expected across Texas, which could lead to more flooding in low-lying areas. The storm is moving inland and will bring strong winds and rain further north.

The Houston ship channel and terminal were closed on Sunday and remain closed today. The Port of Houston is currently at port condition “Yankee,” which means no inbound ships are allowed. Terminal operations are on hold and will resume when safe to do so. According to the Port’s website, the terminal will stay closed on Tuesday, July 9th.

Rail operations started restricting operations in Houston on July 7th affecting five rail yards. In gating is currently suspended and will resume when safe to do so.

Restrictions have been put in place at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) in Houston. Cargo moving inbound and outbound cargo is grounded until restrictions lift July 9th.

Due to power outages and localised flooding local trucking operations will be affected. Cargo collections and deliveries will be delayed and your local Customer Service Representative will advise if your cargo is affected. For up coming scheduled collections/deliveries, there may be disruptions as the tropical storm moves north and continues to dump heavy rain.

Thank you for your understanding and patience as we navigate through these challenges.
